Notice regarding winter road conditions and road maintenance in the Town of Blaine:
Often with the first early snowfalls the snow sticks to the asphalt and gets packed down with traffic and then freezes. Many roads remain icy unless it warms up enough to thaw the packed snow and ice. The first thing to remember is to slow down, especially on curves and intersections. Also, remember 4-wheel drive vehicles may get you going easier, but will not help you stop any easier as all vehicles have 4 wheel brakes.
This slippery condition can last for a long time, and our procedure is to spread a limited amount of sand on these roads, but focus primarily on the hills, curves, and intersections. Typically to save time and money we will spread the sand down the middle of the road so that vehicles going in either direction will have some better traction on their left wheels. However, the most imporant thing to remember is that it's winter again, and we must drive accordingly. Please, just slow down and be safe!
